The opportunity
Following the acquisition of his company, Patrick led the Perficient Philadelphia leadership team as the business expanded its reach in the Northeast. Perficient was a large national integrator working across IT and digital marketing, and the practice served enterprise clients in a wide range of industries.
Patrick managed UX designers, portal developers, and visual design teams, alongside a book of more than $6 million in new signings during the first year. Client engagements included PPL (Pennsylvania Power & Light), Owens Corning, Omnicell, Comerica, Wawa, Aramark, Keystone Automotive, Western Union, and Lexmark.
Leading a distributed delivery practice
Patrick provided UX guidance and management to remote teams of consultants and visual designers. He hired, managed, and mentored a team of 16+ product designers working across different tools and development frameworks.
The practice managed more than 20 separate client projects, with phases spanning user research, design, and front-end development.
A portfolio across industries
The work combined customer-facing experiences with internal enterprise tools:
- E-commerce and point of sale: custom Magento and Sitecore solutions for Aramark, Lexmark, and Keystone Automotive.
- Global intranets: employee performance-management and collaboration tools using SharePoint and Office 365 frameworks for PPL, Owens Corning, and Wawa.
- Commercial websites: brand and marketing experiences for Omnicell, Catholic Health East, Cardinal Health, and other clients.
- Manufacturing and supply management: SKU-tracking and management portals for CertainTeed / Saint-Gobain, Western Union, and Omnicell.
Establishing research-led delivery
Patrick established a user research-driven UX process with iterative handoffs to development teams. Evidence-based design and product design became part of how the practice responded to client needs across the portfolio.
He also guided senior leadership in developing an Agile and Lean UX program model for global product-development strategies, supported by operating practices for research, reporting, analysis, and continuous improvement.
The outcome
The original case study describes accelerated organizational growth through the integration of product design and evidence-based design principles. It reports both more than $6 million in new signings in the first year and management of more than $6 million annually in client UX and product-design projects.
Those are different measures: one describes first-year new business, and the other describes the annual project portfolio under management. Together with the team and project scope, they show the scale of Patrick’s practice-leadership responsibilities.
